Dr. McKelvain was born in west Texas.  As a sophomore in high school, he decided that a career in dentistry best suited him.  After attending Texas Tech University and The University of Texas Health Science Dental Branch in Houston, he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1977.  After two years of private practice in general dentistry, he attended Baylor College of Dentistry where he received his Certificate in Orthodontics in 1981 and later his Master of Science in Dentistry.  He has practiced Orthodontics in the metroplex for over 26 years.  His front office staff has over 40 years of dental experience and his clinical team has over 50 years of dental experience.

Dr. McKelvain is a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, American Association of Functional Orthodontists, and the Texas Dental Association.

Dr. McKelvain and his wife, Kay, have been married for 26 years and have one daughter, Liz, and two grandchildren, Emma and Jet.  He spends much of his free time working in his home shop equipped with welding, sheet metal, and assorted other tools. Past projects have included playground equipment, experimental airplane, and various props for the schools.  Currently the shop has a Harley under construction, as well as a piece of exercise equipment that is patent pending. Now that there are grandchildren in the equation, old hobbies such as flying, scuba diving, and snow skiing have been replaced.  The grandchildren are more fun and sometimes safer.
